What do we do and how do we do it?

Cake or Death creates custom, hand-sculpted works of edible art using cake, icing, and fondant. Cake or Death does not make slab cakes, ready-made or mass-produced cakes. We specialize in edible 3-D sculptures of any size and style, from multi-tiered wedding cakes to smaller occasion cakes.

What’s in a cake?

Regardless of flavour, a Cake or Death cake usually consists of cake frosted with butter-cream icing and covered with fondant icing, along with other edible and non-edible decorations. (Fondant icing is a blend of corn syrup, sugar, and gelatin, which can be kneaded, rolled, or shaped and is used to create the outer design of a cake sculpture.)

As artists, our commission is determined by size of cake, as well as complexity of design. Cost usually starts at $8 per serving. Cake or Death has a $300 minimum for cake orders.

Please keep in mind that producing a beautiful and artful cake requires time and expertise. We will, however, try to work within your budget and adjust the labour accordingly. Even simple can be dramatic and elegant!
